Albert Cortez
December 18, 1943 - May 14, 2024
Mr. Albert Cortez, 80, was called by the Lord on May 14, 2024, in Laredo, Texas.
Albert was born in Dallas, Texas and raised in Laredo. He graduated from Martin High School in 1963. Shortly after graduation, he enlisted in the Air Force where he worked as Security Police at various Air Force bases across the world.
When he returned to Laredo, he attended many dances and concerts held at the local civic center. This is where he met his future wife, Juanita Evangelina Sanchez.
Albert was deployed to Vietnam and returned in March of 1969. On May 3 of that same year, Albert and Juanita were wed at Our Lady Guadalupe Catholic Church. Together they lived on Air Force Bases located in North Carolina, Texas, Alaska, Wyoming, the Philippines, California and lastly Louisiana, where they raised their three children.
Albert officially retired from the Air Force in October 1983. He then worked for Kmart, where he retired after 15 years of service. He then briefly served as a Security Guard with Securitas.
Albert and Juanita were excited to relocated back to Laredo in August of 2019, marking an emotional homecoming after nearly 45 years away. Together, they wanted to return to their roots, reconnect with their families and, most importantly, live out their Golden Years.
Albert will forever be cherished for his quick wit, mastery of multiple languages, and his smooth dance moves, qualities that captured our mother's heart.
He is preceded in death by his wife: Juanita Evangelina Cortez; parents: Mario Cortez and Martina Rendon Cortez; great-grandmother: Carolina Montes; stepmother: Aurora V. Cortez; son: Miguel Angel Cortez.
Left behind to celebrate and cherish his memory are his children: Alberto Isaac Cortez, Adriana Laura (Adrian Guzman) Cortez; grandchildren: Elijah (Courtney) Guzman, Josiah Guzman; siblings: Roberto Emilio (Delia) Cortez, Laura (Rogelio) Rios; nephew: Mario Cortez
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Araceli Ramirez, Albert and Juanita’s cherished caregiver, for her unwavering dedication and loving support. Araceli, your care and compassion deeply touched our parents’ hearts. You have been an amazing blessing in our lives. The family would also like to express our appreciation to Manna Provider Services, Heavenly Nurses, and the entire team at Altus Hospice for their exceptional care and support during this challenging time.
Albert Cortez will be laid to rest with military honors in the Veterans Section of the City of Laredo Cemetery on Saturday, June 22nd at 10 AM. In a final gesture of their enduring love, the ashes of his beloved wife, Juanita Evangelina Cortez, will be placed with him.
